How the health insurance calculator works
The calculator starts from a base level of cover for your type of city, then adjusts it for family size, the age of the eldest member and household income. It shows a range rather than a single number, because the right amount depends on the hospitals you would use and the policy's features.
Employer cover is shown separately and not counted towards the range, because it usually ends when you change jobs or retire.
Beyond the sum insured
Two policies with the same cover can behave very differently at claim time. Waiting periods, room rent limits, co-payments and sub-limits all matter. A base policy combined with a top-up or super top-up can be a cost-effective way to increase cover.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an insurance quote?
No. It is an educational estimate. Premiums, acceptance and policy terms are decided by the insurer based on its underwriting guidelines.
Should my parents be on the same policy?
Often a separate policy for parents works better, so their claims do not reduce the cover available to the rest of the family and the family floater premium stays lower.
Is there an age limit to buy health insurance?
Since 2024, insurers can no longer refuse a new policy only because of age. Acceptance and premiums still depend on the insurer's assessment of health and other factors.
