How the goal calculator works
First, your current savings are grown at the assumed rate until the target date. The calculator then works out the gap between that amount and your target, and the monthly SIP that could fill that gap at the same assumed rate.
If your target is in today's prices, increase it for inflation before entering it. Education and healthcare costs, in particular, have historically risen faster than general prices.
Frequently asked questions
Should I enter the goal amount in today's money?
Enter the amount you expect the goal to cost when you need it. If you only know today's cost, increase it for inflation over the years remaining.
What if the calculator shows ₹0 a month?
It means that, at the assumed return, your current savings could reach the target on their own. Because returns are not guaranteed, you may still want to keep investing regularly.
How should I invest for a short-term goal?
Money needed in the next few years is usually kept in lower-volatility options, because there is less time to recover from a fall. The right choice depends on the goal and your circumstances.
